Musician’s Career : Training & Information Workshops Series

The Centre des musiciens du monde and Productions Nuits d’Afrique are joining together to offer a series of training workshops on several important aspects for leading a career in music. During winter and spring 2018, 5 thematic meetings (free admission) will be hosted, each of them addressing issues such as preparing grant applications, disseminating, promoting an artistic project or even music publishing.

First Session

Tips & advices for filling a grant application to the Conseil des arts de Montréal

Speakers

  • Iulia-Anamaria Salagor, project manager – cultural diversity in the arts, Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM)
  • Kiya Tabassian, musician and artistic director of Constantinople (recipient of several CAM grants), membre of the CAM’s music decision comittee for 7 years

January 31; Iulia-Anamaria Salagor, project manager at the CAM, and Constantinople’s Artistic Director, Kiya Tabassian, will answer all questions regarding the preparation of a grant application to the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

After a short introduction to programs and services specially offered to musicians, Iulia-Anamaria and Kiya will share advices and experiences about the submission of a grant application, from writing an artistic project to planning a budget. The objective is to provide a maximum of tools in order to optimize chances of success for those who wish to submit an application soon.

Second session

Support programs and grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec: resources within your reach


Speakers

  • Sophie-Isabelle Lesage, program manager of the support branch for creation and production organizations, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ)
  • Guillaume Thériault,  grants’ program manager (CALQ)
  • Kiya Tabassian, musician and artistic director of Constantinople (recipient of several CALQ grants)

On Tuesday, February 27; program managers Sophie-Isabelle Lesage and Guillaume Thériault of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and Constantinople’s artistic director Kiya Tabssian will discuss about different resources offered by the CALQ to musicians.

The first part of the meeting will consist in presenting support programs for creation and production organizations, as well as CALQ scholarships for individual artists. As a musician and artistic director of a musical organization, Kiya Tabassian will also testify about his experiences in filling funding applications to the CALQ.

Then, a discussion period will allow the 3 speakers to answer all questions of participating musicians.

How to be the driving force of your own project: artist management and self-promotion

The Music Publishing World : France vs Canada

This workshop will reveal all the secrets of the music publishing landscape and its little-known, yet essential to career development, professions in France as in Canada.

Fifth Session

How to effectively present your musical project

You wish to find easier financial sources, meet business partners and grow your project? By attending this workshop, you will have all the tools to present your project and meet Montreal artistic community’s requirements.

We will discuss about the essential steps of an artistic project plan including:

  • Detailed description of your artistic project;
  • Target Audiences – Communication Strategies;
  • Project Schedule – Action Plan;
  • Presentation of artists and organizations leading the project;
  • Presentation of figures: Budget and financial arrangements.

This workshop will allow you to effectively present your artistic project to funding partners and other potential collaborators.
