Sema Gültekin
Professor
Born in Ankara and originally from Malatya, Turkey, Sema Gültekin has been immersed in Turkish folk music since childhood. Trained in baglama and solfeggio, she developed her stage experience in high school, while pursuing an MBA at Istanbul’s Yeditepe University. She perfected her repertoire at the Erdal Erzincan Music Center. Settled in Montreal since 2022, she contributes to the promotion of Turkish folk music through concerts and workshops, both on the local music scene and within the Montreal Turkish community.
Description
Let’s set off together to discover the rich world of traditional Turkish songs from different regions of Anatolia. Handed down orally from generation to generation, these songs tell of love, nature and the celebrations of everyday life. The course offers a warm, pedagogical and sharing approach, respecting the regional and stylistic particularities of this music.
Prerequisites:
None. The course is open to all levels. No knowledge of Turkish is required.
