The language of Eastern European Jews, Yiddish made its way to Canada with successive waves of immigration in the 20th century. Between deep roots and contemporary creations, it resonates here in original songs inspired by exile, memory, loss, but also hope, love, humor, and tenderness.
The concert Tur Malka (The King’s Mountain) – New Yiddish Songs from Canada explores this original vocal repertoire in a refined acoustic format, performed by a quartet (piano, violin, cello, double bass).
An intimate and vibrant concert, with simple and powerful melodies, where the past meets the present in a language that sings delightfully to our ears.
