Serre l’écoute is a vocal trio that has spent over 25 years passionately exploring the French-language oral tradition repertoire. Liette Remon, Gabrielle Bouthillier, and Robert Bouthillier introduce audiences to the richness and diversity of this vast repertoire, drawing on their own field collections and various archival sources to uncover unpublished versions and rare gems. Ambassadors of ancient know-how acquired through contact with numerous tradition bearers, they sing the old way, with untempered scales, unpulsed rhythms, and ornamented phrasing. Add to that organic polyphonic arrangements that seem to rise from the songs themselves, as though they had always been there waiting for their voices to settle… that is Serre l’écoute.
