Centre des musiciens du mondeDescription
Arabic music is forged on a rich and varied melodic system (maqâm) including intervals that are not found in the western scales. Of a monodic and highly ornamental nature, the classical Arabic melodies are transmitted orally, and they quite naturally incorporate an infinite number of variations and improvisations.
Prerequisites: The workshop is aimed at amateur and professional musicians with a basic or intermediate/advanced level in the interpretation of an Arabic musical instrument (oud, kanun, violin, ney, percussion …) or other string or wind instruments with a possibility of playing micro-tones able to read scores except for percussion instruments (bendir, darbouka, riqq, etc.). Participants must bring their instrument.
