Anne-Marie Gardette and Pierre Chartrand
Anne-Marie Gardette and Pierre Chartrand will teach you English and French country dances, in their original versions and sometimes North American versions.
At the Centre des musiciens du monde, you have the chance to learn French country dances, English country dances, and those of New France from dance teachers who are undisputed in the transmission of these repertoires.
The workshop will explore the unmissable 18th-century book Livre de contredances (or Manuscrit de Trois-Rivières), which includes baroque steps and figures specific to French contradances (or “square” dances). We will also take a look at the English forms of contradance (column, circle, square, etc.) that both North Americans and Europeans practiced during the 18th and 19th centuries.
We offer this group course for all ages and levels. It is not necessary to come with a dance partner.
