The Daf is a frame drum which originates from the Kurdish traditions. It is played extensively throughout Iran, Turkey and Iraq. It is a frame drum which is held in the upright position. There are layers of chains which are attached to the body of the frame which give the player an endless palette of sounds and textures. The daf can be adapted to almost any style of music and is fun and very enjoyable to learn in a private or group setting.
