Rodney Hinojosa
Venezuelan Cuatro
Born into a prolific musical family in Venezuela, Rodney Hinojosa is a Montreal-based versatile artist: cellist, cuatrista, guitarist, singer, teacher, choirmaster, artistic director and conductor, arranger and composer.
Graduate from the world-renowned music education program “The System” (El Systema), a national system of orchestras and choirs for youth in Venezuela, Rodney has surpassed academic studies in music in Venezuela with great masters of the world.
Director of the Multicultural Choir Canticorum of Montreal, Rodney pursues various musical projects in parallel: he teaches the cuatro, the guitar and the cello, drawing inspiration from the pedagogical philosophy of the system of the Venezuelan orchestra “Aprender a Tocar Tocando” (learn to play by playing). He aspires to form an orchestra of traditional instruments from his country, starting with the cuatro, to pass on his knowledge to new generations.
