The Renaissance was a pivotal period for the development of dance in the West, as it saw the emergence of the very first dance treatises.
This workshop, led by Anne-Marie Gardette, will focus on the dances of the Italian courts during the Quattrocento and Cinquecento (bassa danza, balletto, etc.). The ballroom repertoire used in France at the end of the 16th century, as described in Thoinot Arbeau’s essential Orchésographie (branle, pavane, galliard, etc.), will also be explored.
These two-hour workshops are open to everyone; musicians who play this repertoire (Praetorius, Attaingnant, Gervaise, Phalèse, etc.) and wish to learn the dances are also welcome.
Open to all.
