A series of world music concerts

The series of concerts “Musique, horizons lointains” invites you to explore new musical territories. Each musician shares the repertoire or the tradition that he masters and pushes towards new horizons. This year, we invite you to feel the pulse of ancient traditions, intertwined and revived. To foresee their future and the universal values they carry from a wide variety of instruments: piano, oud, violin, ukulele, double bass, tar, mandolin, kamanche, tombak… A journey to gently go beyond our geographical and temporal boundaries, from Iran to Quebec, via Andalusia and Syria.

Join us to discover their new work, a result of a 2022 summer residency at the Centre.

Archives: traditional Quebec songs and tunes from the 40s and 50s

Cédric Dind-Lavoie et Dâvi Simard en concert

August 31, 2022, 6 p.m. | Saint-Enfant-Jésus Church of Mile-End

$15 (+ tax + ticketing fees)

Archives is the new project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Cédric Dind-Lavoie, a show that marries folklore archives with ambient and introspective music. The musician reclaims old treasures found through a selection of Québec songs and instrumental tunes from the 1940’s and 1950’s, drawn from the collections of folklorists Simonne Voyer, Roger Matton and Luc Lacourcière. He is supported on stage by the fiddler Dâvi Simard turned towards sound exploration and who brings as well a strong anchoring in the traditional codes. Together, they form a trio with the archive station which plays relics of the past in real-time, operated directly on reel or vinyl. It is as if the two musicians had been able to slip through the cracks of time to meet these voices and their stories to accompany them.
