Colombian Gaïta

Individual courses by Zilien Biret

The Gaïta was born from an encounter between the “pastoral” flute (Peul, Malinké) of black African slaves and flutes of the Colombian peoples, notably Koguis and Arhuacos from the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. A rich and varied repertoire of melodies has been passed from generation to generation on this traditional instrument whose mouth is made of beeswax and charcoal.

Prerequisites: basic knowledge of flute.
