Trad violon and gigue concert
An intimate concert with Alexis Chartrand and Nic Gareiss
Inimitable percussive dancer Nic Gareiss makes a rare trip to Montreal to perform a duo concert with fiddler Alexis Chartrand. Melding unparalleled virtuosity with an introspective sensibility, the two artists trace, with disarming spontaneity, their path across French Canadian, Appalachian and Irish traditions. Propelled by melodies inherited from Québécois folklore, Gareiss and Chartrand explore, with palpable pleasure, the sharing of sounds and gestures, blurring the lines between music and dance, melody and movement. This concert is a privileged opportunity to witness the contemporaneity of our traditions, the singular creativity of Nic Gareiss’ step-dancing, and Alexis Chartrand’s unique playing on the baroque violin.

Anatolian songs
An intimate concert with Erkan Oğur and Ismail Hakkı Demircioğlu
Erkan Oğur, the inventor of the fretless guitar, is a critically acclaimed guitarist whose influence extends beyond international borders. His collaboration with Ismail Hakkı Demircioğlu, a master of the strings, has been hailed for its artistic alchemy and deeply emotional performances. The duo’s repertoire includes a mix of old and more recent Anatolian folk songs, described as “a joint attempt to remember” the soulful melodies of their homeland.
For over twenty years, Oğur and Demircioğlu have been breathing new life into Anatolian songs, blending traditional instruments like the saz and bağlama lute with the modern sounds of fretless guitar. Their collaborations have resulted in several acclaimed albums and concerts worldwide, drawing on musical traditions dating back to the 14th century.
