Katya Kovshun is a young performer and digital artist with extensive knowledge of Ukrainian folklore, who recently moved to Montreal.
The mystical tradition of Ukrainian singing began with ancestors who believed that the connection between the world of the living and the world of spirits could only be possible through an open voice.
In this course you will:
- Learn about the meaning behind traditional celebrations and rituals of Ukrainian village
- Explore what an open voice is and how to find your own.
- Learn the vocal differences between regional, ceremonial, seasonal, and occupation-based songs.
- Have fun singing as a group in a relaxed environment
As this is an oral tradition, no knowledge of music reading is required. Lyric sheets will be provided. This course is open to vocalists of all ages and genders.
