French and English Contra dances of the 17th- 19th centuries

Group classes (all levels) with Anne-Marie Gardette and Pierre Chartrand

Anne-Marie Gardette and Pierre Chartrand will teach you English and French country dances, in their original and sometimes North American versions.

Learn the country dances of France and England

At the Centre des musiciens du monde, you have the chance to learn French country dances, English country dances, and those of New France from dance teachers who are undisputed in the transmission of these repertoires.

The workshop will explore the unmissible 18th-century book Livre de contredances (or Manuscrit de Trois-Rivières), which includes baroque steps and figures specific to French contradances (or “square” dances). We will also take a look at the English forms of contradance (column, circle, square, etc.) both North American and European practiced during the 18th and 19th centuries.

We offer this group course for all ages and levels. It is not necessary to come with a dance partner.

On Thursday from 7:30 PM to 8:45 PM.
