7th edition of the Festival des musiciens du monde
CHANTS DES STEPPES
Thursday, May 16, 2024
Ghalia Benali, Constantinople & Kiya Tabassian
BELGIUM, IRAN
Ghalia Benali is often referred to as the “Aretha Franklin of Carthage”, the “Daughter of the Wind”, the “Ambassador of Arab culture”, the “Granddaughter of Oum Kalthoum”, a list far from exhaustive. Her music is characterized by its filiation with multiple genres, and more than that, it redefines contemporary Arab music.
She will share the stage with sétar virtuoso Kiya Tabassian and the Constantinople Ensemble for a concert devoted to Rumi’s Sufi poetry.
