Brazilian Popular Piano

Individual classes by Paulo Bottas

From the second half of the 19th century, piano entered Brazilian musical life by creating an identity for itself apart from classical music. The instrument has been adopted by the most famous Brazilian popular music composers among which: Chiquinha Gonzaga, Ernesto Nazareth, Radamés Gnatalli, Tom Jobim, Cesar Carmargo Mariano. Its rich repertoire includes unique rhythms and melodies, such as the maxix, choro, bossa nova, samba and related genres.

With a Master’s degree in Musicology from the University of Montreal, Paulo Bottas is a reference in Brazilian popular piano who is also known for his pedagogical approach.
