Internationally renowned guitarist and composer Caroline Planté began learning flamenco guitar at the age of seven with her father, Marcel Planté “El Rubio”, one of Montreal’s flamenco pioneers. Thanks to numerous grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec, she perfected her art in Spain where she followed the teaching of several masters and dedicated herself to composition.
In July 2010, she launches her first album 8reflexiones under the label El Pescador de Estrellas. Recorded at the mythical Musigrama in Madrid; 8reflexiones is the first flamenco album entirely written and performed by a female guitarist. In addition, it met with great success in Spain, Canada and around the world.
Awarded with the Prix Accès Culture 2017 from the 30e Bourse RIDEAU, Caroline is also performing a series of concerts for her new show combining tradition and modernity, “Le train des 57 cordes” which has been touring since autumn 2017. The musician also develops collaborations, in particular with the company La Otra Orilla, the ensemble Oktoecho, Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Co (Toronto) and the collective “Des mots sur mesure VII” (on tour Montreal 2017-2018).
